Pre genetic screening and diagnosis

Pre- Implantation Genetic Screening is the testing of embryos for any genetic disease. This testing is done before planting the embryos in a mother’s womb during an IVF procedure. The screening can be Pre-implantation Genetic Screening (PGS) for any chromosomal abnormality or Pre Genetic Disease (PGD) screening for any underlying genetic disorder. PGD and PGS are performed to create healthy babies without any genetic abnormality and birth defects.

About 3-8 cells are taken on the day 5th from a fertilized embryo (Blastocyst) and tested for any abnormality. This healthy embryo is later implanted in the mother’s womb.
